Palmer Family Research - Generation 1
John Palmer, lived 10/26/1773 to 3/29/1861, married Mary Reed, lived 1787 to 2/12/1875.
Family lore says John and his brother were born in Scotland, immigrated with their mother, and were shipwrecked before reaching Philadelphia. Only John is believed to have survived. Census records refute this as both 1850 and 1860 records have John listed as born in PA. He was a tenant farmer in the Lycoming/Columbia/Montour County area, finally settling in the Turbotville/McEwensville area of Northumberland County, and was in his 60's when his only son was born (Mary was almost 50). Mary is listed as being from Ireland on the 1850 and 1860 census records. Family notes say she is the daughter of William Reed of Mausdale. They had a daughter, Margaret, who married a Philip Lowe of Moreland Twp., Lycoming County (just across the county line from Turbotville), which is where John and Mary are listed as living in the 1810 and 1840 census records.

James Reed Palmer, born 1832, died 1912, married Mary Bruch (or Bruck) who lived 1834-1919, the daughter of Peter Bruch and Mary Ann Dell from Northampton and then Northumberland Counties, PA.

In 1898, this family gathered for the first Palmer family reunion to visit together during a vacation trip after the families of Lizzie and William Kerr and Follmer and Irene Palmer had relocated with the Watsontown Table Works to Hagerstown, MD.
Margaret Palmer (about 1828-?) married Philip Lowe (1811-1854), son of Rev. Thomas Low of Moreland, Lycoming County, PA, and had 4 sons, Russell (who relocated to Santa Barbara, CA), Newton, Erastus, and Wilson; lived outside Muncy in the country south of Hughesville.
